One of the shortest but most beloved festivals at Silver Dollar City is almost upon us. What festival is that? Why it’s the Southern Gospel Picnic! From August 24th through September 3, 2012 the streets of Silver Dollar City will be flowing with live performances of some of the best Southern Gospel music you’ll ever hear gathered in one place.
Both homegrown local talent and nationally known musicians will be converging on Silver Dollar City for this 10 day festival. Performers include The Isaacs, Booth Brothers, The Easters, Karen Peck & New River, Duane Garren, and Les Butler. All the main stages in the park will also be featuring gospel shows for the duration of the festival. The Red Gold Heritage Hall will be hosting concerts as well as the Singing News Stage. And every evening close out your visit to the park with the Southern Gospel Nights concert series in Echo Hollow. These nightly shows feature a top gospel concert hosted by KWFC radio’s Dave Taylor. Admission for all of these shows is free with your regular park admission.
If Southern Gospel Music were all this festival offered it would be enough, but take a look at the name again Southern Gospel Picnic. And what is a picnic without food! As usual, Silver Dollar City won’t let an opportunity pass without providing some of the best food you’ll find in Branson. During the Gospel picnic, you’ll want to visit The House of Chicken and Fixen’s on the square. Get your favorite style of chicken – fried or not! – along with all the sides you could hope for. Southern Fried Chicken, Apple-Glazed chicken, or Hickory Smoked Chicken–you can’t go wrong. If you’re getting there in the morning you’ll also want a hearty breakfast to start your day – the all you can eat buffet at Molly’s Mill Restaurant would be a great way to start. All this and you’ll quickly see why Silver Dollar City has won numerous awards for having some of the best food in the theme park business.
Start planning your trip to Silver Dollar City and Branson now! We’ve still got room for you to stay at Thousand Hills, but with a festival that only lasts 10 days you’ll want to make reservations early. Come on down for some great food, some great music, and some great memories at the Southern Gospel Picnic at Silver Dollar City!
