Silver Dollar City first created a roller coaster in 1993 that was integrated with the unique topography of the facility. Eight years later, the park developed a two-train, five inversion roller coaster. Later in 2003, the park began looking for options to modernize the roller coaster so it can attract more visitors. So by 2004, Silver Dollar City installed the new roller coaster called the Powder Keg using the same station structure.
The blasting of the Powder Keg into the wilderness uses an explosives factory theme that creates kaboom of a compressed air launch. In just 2.8 seconds, it can accelerate from 0 to 53 mph. The Powder Keg roller coaster features a wild start but an exciting one that gives appeal to thrilling ride enthusiasts. The roller coaster is themed with the history about the miners in the great Marvel Cave that happened 100 years ago.
The Powder Keg train is directly launched into a hill of 60 feet and drops several times. It then falls 100 feet to the ground and speeds up and turns to the right and moves up a second airtime hill. As it accelerates to the fourth hill it turns left and does a right turn and travels past and turns into a different ride. The train’s first ride is about airtime, the second is all about speed. Riders experience an exhilarating and breathtaking action of the roller coaster ride when it speeds up to the height of a hundred feet. After a few seconds overlooking a beautiful view from atop, Powder Keg does a slow turn and dives down with a sudden stop. The Dragonfly Turn which is the last portion of the ride will make every rider catching breath before it stops at the end of the ride.
