The museum collections include 100,000 carton panels and 30,000 artifacts.
Ripley Entertainment, Inc. boasts about 80 attractions worldwide with annual visitors of about 12 million. The company has divisions on broadcast and publishing which have numerous projects that include newspaper cartoon panel, books, games, posters, and syndicated TV series. Ripley originally developed Champs and Chumps (a cartoon featuring sports) that was premiered in the New York Globe on December 19, 1918. The title was later changed to Believe It or Not in October 1919 and from there Ripley started adding items unrelated to sports.
During the early part of the 20th century, Robert Ripley became a world famous cartoonist and artist. “Believe it or not” was originally created by Ripley as sports cartoon and became extremely popular that gave him the chance to travel the world over. While travelling around the world, he would always look for some odd and strange things that he can add to his collections. The bizarre and strange building you can see around the area of the museum in Branson is one of his unique collections.
This unusual cracked building in Branson, Missouri is a reflection of an earthquake that measured 8.0 on the Richter Scale. This earthquake in 1812 made the bells ring in one of the Philadelphia churches that time. This Missouri earthquake was the worst to hit the US that time and even surpassed the earthquake that hit California these last few decades of the 20th century. The Odditorium in Ripley’s Believe It or Not has fascinating displays of exhibits and artifacts that include a model of an aircraft carrier that is made of 48,000 matchsticks and a replica of the Coliseum in Rome that is made of playing cards.
