Let’s be honest – who hasn’t heard of the Harlem Globetrotters? Even if you are not a big sports fan, the Harlem Globetrotters are a nearly universal household name. This famous basketball franchise has been playing on the courts and entertaining fans for 85 years and over 20,000 games – and now, they’re coming to Branson!
In 1926, the Harlem Globetrotters started out as the ‘Savoy Big Five.’ They were organized and coached by 24 year old Abe Saperstein, and named after the famous Chicago Savoy Ballroom. Original players included Tommy Brookins, Inman Jackson, Lester Johnson, Joe Lillard, Randolph Ramsey, Walter “Toots” Wright, and Bill “Ham” Watson. Wright, Byron “Fat” Long, William “Kid” Oliver, Albert “Runt” Pullins and Andy Washington. In 1941, the team adopted the all-time great Reece “Goose” Tatum, who developed much of the team’s comedy routine. As the years went on, the team developed more trick routines, more comedy, and more talent. In 1982, the Harlem Globetrotters became the only sports team ever to be honored with a star on Hollywood Boulevard. The team visited the Pope, the White House, the Middle East, and everywhere in between, and their popularity grew when in 2000, the Harlem Globetrotters donated $100,000 to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. Today, Herschend Family Entertainment is the proud new owner of the world famous Harlem Globetrotter Team.
Now is your chance to catch the Harlem Globetrotters live in action – they will be participating in Silver Dollar City’s Star Spangled Summer here in Branson, MO! From June 6 until July 19, they will be performing a brand spanking new show – The Globetrotter Experience – showcasing their trademark basketball wizardry in a unique and innovative exhibit of skill, athleticism and humor! You can see this awesome performance daily (except Wednesdays) at 11:30 a.m., 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. This unique show can only be found at Silver Dollar City! And if it’s not enough just to see the Harlem Globetrotters, you can have the chance to MEET them too! Each awe inspiring and entertaining performance at Silver Dollar City is followed by a thirty minute meet and greet session where you can pose for photos and get autographs with the legendary team. Entry to the show is included with your Silver Dollar City admission ticket!
