We’ve often been asked what our history was, and about Branson Missouri history facts. Here is a quick reference timeline of some of the highlights from Branson’s 100 Year history in honor of it’s centennial.
A little time lapse history of Thousand Hills in Branson and how it came to be:
Timeline 1990 to present
1990 Silver Dollar City Partners purchased 330 acres for $2.85 million dollars and named it Thousand Hills.
1991Grand Palace opens with Glen Campbell and Louise Mandrell as headliners.
1991 Silver Dollar City’s Partners then sold Andy Williams 13 acres for $3 million for his Moon River theatre.
1992 Andy Williams sold 6 acres to the Crown Plaza Partners for $2.5 million and The Radisson hotel was built.
1992 Planning begins for Thousand Hills Golf Course on 106 acres
1992 Silver Dollar City Partners bought additional 130 acres for $1 million.
1992 Announced the Greens Condominiums, sold 80 condos in 11 wks.
1992 November, announced The Foothills Condominiums, sold 138 condos in 11 mos.
1993 October, construction on the Thousand Hills Golf Course began with 120,000 yards of rocks moved and the partners purchased $720,000.00 worth of topsoil.
1994 Construction begins for Thousand Hills clubhouse.
1994 March announced The Club Condominiums, 41 condos sold 14 days.
1994 The group announced the Champions condos on 18th fairway and went up for sale
1994 The group announced the Fairways condos on 13th fairway and were put up for sale.
1995 Thousand Hills Golf Course and the Clubhouse completed at a cost of $8 million.
1995 April 1st. Andy Williams’s tees up the first golf ball to be driven off the number one tee and history is made.
1995 The Champions condos sells out 69 units.
1997 The Fairways condos sells out 72 units.
1998 Branson visitor counts hits 6.8 Million
1998 State Highway 65 fromSpringfieldto Branson is undergoing a major construction project widening the two lane road to four lanes. The approximately $60 million project is set for completion late 2001.
1999 Construction begins on the Legacy with 77 condos.
1999 Visitor Count Tops Seven Million
1999 More than $37 million has been invested in the development of more than 50 new and reconstructed roads allowing visitors to travel from show to attraction and mall to restaurant in a fraction of the time it would take along Highway 76.
2000 Branson, Missouri, ranked as the 18th most visited overnight leisure destination in the country
2000 The Legacy sells out 77 units.
2000 Construction begins on The Tower on Table Rock lake with 40 units condos.
2001 Construction begins on The Grande Legacy.
2001 100% of the condominiums at the Towers on Table Rock lake are sold.
2002 The Grande Legacy (38 units) sells out
2001 October-Sales open at The Cabins at Grand Mountain.
2002 Silver Dollar City groups unveils plans a $40 million dollar development, Celebration City
2002 City announces plan to develop 95 acres on the Taneycomo lakefront called “Branson Landing”
2002 Visitor counts tops Eight Million
2003 Cabins at Grand Mountainhave 80% under contract.
2003 Roy Rogers museum completed at a cost of $3,000,000.00
2003 HCW provides master plan for the Branson Landing estimated cost is $420 million dollars.
2003 Announced The Links at Thousand Hills. 84 unit development.
2003 The Missouri Department of Transportation plans for a $32 million project to build a new bridge over Lake Taneycomo and widen U.S. 65 to four lanes from the lake to Missouri 165
2003 Highway 465 “Ozark Highroad” opens
2004 Ground work begins for The Residence at Thousand Hills
2004 Ground work completed on the Branson Landing project
2004 The Cabins at Grand Mountain sells out.
2005 Ground breaking for the $50 million dollar Branson Mill craft mall off Gretna Road.
2005 SDC is building a 10 million dollar roller coaster ‘Powder Keg” 0-50 in 5.3 seconds
2005 City of Branson will complete the recreation center
2005 The Dick Clark American Bandstand theatre will be complete across from Dixie Stampede in early 2006.
2005 Sight and Sound theatre announces opening date of 2008, Biblical musical theme
2005 The New Shangai Theatre opens this summer
2005 City starts five lane bridge across Roark creek for the $420 million dollar Branson Landing project.
2005 Branson Missouri Named number #1 for motorcaoch travel.
2006 The Majestic at table rock is opened for sell and 32 units are sold within the first 72 hours
2007 The Sight and Sound group announce they will break ground on a new theatre in Branson Missouri. The cost of the theatre is $70,000,000.
2007 Patch group announces first privately funded airport to be built in Hollister. The first plan to land in Spring 2009. The cost of the new airport is $115 Million.
2007 Branson Landing Grand Opening
2009 Branson Missouri’s Airport first commercial flight, Sun Country Airlines flight SY509 from Minneapolis/St. Paul, touched down at 9:00 AM followed at 11:55 AM by AirTran Airway’s flight 1582 from Milwaukee.
2009 Gary Snadon announces a one of a kind Zip Line that starts at the top of Inspiration Tower
2010 A group from China announced it’ll be taking up residency in the White House Theatre next spring. Heaven Creation bought the theatre and will debut the show called The Legend of Kung Fu.
